Projector-Ready Patterns
Made-to-measure patterns,
projector-ready by default.
Every People's Patterns projector file is built for sewing projectors from the ground up. Layers, full-field alignment grid, dark mode output, unfolded pieces, calibration page, and SVG bundle. Included with every pattern.
What every projector file includes
No add-on checklist. No hidden extras. This is the full list.
Cut line, stitch line, grain line, alignment grid, piece labels, and dark mode output on separate toggleable layers. Show only what you need.
A 1-inch alignment grid spans the entire projected area on every page. Toggle it on to verify calibration or align grain lines with your mat. Toggle it off to see the piece cleanly.
A dedicated dark mode layer inverts the projection: white background, black lines replaced with bright outlines. Use it when projecting onto dark or patterned fabric for maximum contrast.
Every piece is shown at full width. No fold lines to work around. The complete mirrored outline is drawn so you can cut single-layer fabric or make asymmetric modifications directly from the projection.
Page 1 is always the calibration page. It shows a 4-inch square and a 10 cm square side by side. Use a ruler on your cutting mat to verify scale before cutting a single piece.
A zip of individual SVG files, one per pattern piece. Import them into Pattern Projector, Inkscape, or any vector tool. Useful if you want to arrange multiple pieces on a custom canvas or modify geometry before cutting.
The Layers panel
Open the Layers panel in your PDF viewer to control what is visible on the projection. In Acrobat: View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Layers.
Turn individual layers on or off by clicking the eye icon next to each layer name in Acrobat's Layers panel.

Pattern Projector compatible
People's Patterns projector files open directly in Pattern Projector (free, open-source, browser-based). The layers panel maps correctly, and the 1-inch grid aligns with Pattern Projector's built-in calibration tools. If you already use Pattern Projector as your sewing app, no changes to your workflow are required.
The SVG bundle is also compatible with Pattern Projector's SVG import. Drag individual piece SVGs into the app if you prefer to work piece-by-piece rather than navigating PDF pages.
Frequently asked questions
Which PDF readers support layers?
Adobe Acrobat Reader (Windows, Mac, Linux, free) is the most reliable. Open the Layers panel via View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Layers. PDF Expert (Mac and iOS, paid) shows layers in its sidebar. Xodo (Android, iOS, Windows, free) supports layer toggling on mobile and desktop. Apple Preview on Mac does not show the Layers panel. Browser-based viewers including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge do not support PDF layers at all.
What is zoom calibration and why does it matter?
Calibration is how you confirm that the projected image is at true 1:1 scale. Page 1 of every projector file shows a 4-inch square and a 10 cm square. You project this page and measure the squares with a ruler on your cutting mat. If they do not measure correctly, you adjust the projector's zoom or height until they do. Every session should start with calibration. Projectors can shift slightly overnight and temperature changes affect lens focus. Skipping calibration is the most common cause of fit problems with projector sewing.
What is the difference between an A0 file and a projector file?
An A0 file is designed for copy shop plotters. All pieces are arranged on a large single page (33.1 by 46.8 inches) with tight nesting to minimize paper waste. A projector file is formatted differently: one piece per page, centered, with no nesting. Each page also includes the alignment grid and layer markup that A0 files do not have. The two formats are separate files. People's Patterns sells both as part of the same add-on purchase.
Why are pieces shown unfolded?
Traditional printed patterns show symmetric pieces with a fold line because printing the full piece wastes paper. A projector file does not have that constraint. Showing the full unfolded piece lets you see the complete outline at once, which is useful for asymmetric modifications and single-layer cutting. You can still fold your fabric and cut both layers simultaneously using the unfolded outline as your guide.
What can I do with the SVG bundle?
The SVG bundle contains one SVG file per pattern piece. You can import them into Pattern Projector, open them in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator for modifications, arrange them on a custom canvas to plan fabric layout, or use them with any cutting plotter that accepts SVG input. Piece outlines in the SVG files are at 1:1 scale using 96 dpi SVG units (1 px = 1/96 inch).
Every pattern in the catalog comes with a projector file option. Start with one or browse the full collection.
